Taking a look around your bedroom, do you feel like it lacks that little something special? The problem is, you just cannot put your finger on what it is that your room is lacking. Don’t panic, because when it comes to ensuring that your bedroom has everything that it should have, and is the ideal place to relax and unwind in, we have got you covered.

To determine what your bedroom is missing, have a read of our list of 10 things that every bedroom needs to have:

  1. A cloud-like mattress

You owe it to yourself (and your back) to invest in a quality mattress. To ensure that you are able to get a good night’s sleep more easily, a high-quality mattress is a must. Not sure what mattress to upgrade to? Look for something that is pocket sprung and wonderfully luxurious, or if you prefer a softer mattress, opt for memory foam.

  1. Incredible bed linen

There is nothing nicer than climbing into bed at night and being greeted by the softest and silkiest bed linen. If you want to fall for your bedroom, investing in incredible bed linen is a must. Invest in a selection of high thread count sheets and duvet sets, and rotate them on a weekly basis.

  1. A beautiful rug

There is not one feature that ties a room together like a rug does, is there? Choosing a rug that offers the perfect combination of style, softness, and warmth can pull your bedroom together, making it feel like a much cosier and more comfortable space.

  1. A bedside table

If you don’t currently have a bedside table, now is the time to invest in one. These are just so handy, and every bedroom needs one (or two, depending on your preference). You can pop a lamp next to the bed, store your book on there; you can even store your favourite moisturiser and pieces of jewellery on there. Bedside tables are so useful, so why would you even consider going without?

10 things every bedroom should have

  1. Splash of colour

Neutral bedrooms are beautiful, or at least, they can be. But, and it’s a big but, every bedroom needs a splash of colour here and there. Whether you choose to incorporate a bright, bold colour or a more subtle pastel hue, it doesn’t matter, all that matters is that you find a way to add some colour here and there. Invest in a bright headboard, a colourful picture frame, or a bold throw, and give your bedroom that colour splash it needs.

  1. Somewhere to sit

Have you ever been to a five-star, luxury hotel? If you have, then you were probably treated to a comfortable chair in your bedroom. Why shouldn’t you add a seating area to your room, like a hotel room offers? If you like to relax with a good book, adding a chair to your room could be ideal, as it could offer you the perfect place to sit and relax while you read.

  1. Some artwork

Every bedroom needs some artwork to add an extra sense of style and elegance to the space. To add that extra sense of style. Whether it’s a bright, bold piece that adds humour to the room or something more neutral, it doesn’t matter, any piece of wall art will help the room to make a statement.

  1. Storage space

A messy bedroom is a stressful bedroom, that’s a fact. Various studies have shown that cluttered spaces cause stress, which is why, when it comes to the design of your bedroom, incorporating plenty of storage space is so important. Whether it’s a large wardrobe or a couple of chest of drawers, it doesn’t matter, just as long as you have plenty of storage space available to you. For a bedroom that looks dark, mirrored, sliding door wardrobes could be ideal for reflecting more light back into the room.

  1. Layered lighting

One overhead light is not enough for your bedroom. To create a cosier and more chic and elegant vibe, it is important to layer the lighting with various lighting sources. Ideally, you want to have an overhead light which is encased in a lampshade, to dim its brightness, a table lamp, and perhaps a string or two of fairy lights. Don’t have a dimmer switch in place, consider installing one, or investing in Hive technology that comes with light bulbs that you can dim via your smartphone, rather than a switch.

  1. Thick curtains

If there is one thing that no bedroom should do, it is let light stream in, in the early hours of the morning. There is nothing that disturbs your sleep more than having curtains that aren’t thick enough in place. So if you don’t already have blackout blinds or curtains, now is the time to invest in them. (Honestly, they will make getting a good night’s sleep much easier – that’s a promise!)

There you have it, a guide to 10 things that every bedroom should have.
