Moving into a new house is a challenging undertaking, and it is generally done in stages. Yet, the first day is definitely one of the most important ones. Even though it can be quite time consuming and tiresome, there is nothing you can do about it – some things should be done all at once. So, to help you get started, here is the list of 15 things to do when you arrive at your new home:
- Double check your possessions –if you have rented fully equipped apartments before, you should think of which items you have and which ones are yet to be bought – even before you arrive at your new house. Think of the essentials first – dishes, utensils, towels.
- Order new furniture if necessary – the same goes for furniture – it is quite probable that you will need to buy something for your bedroom , kitchen, etc.
- Get someone to help you – moving into a new house cannot be done on your own, so you should ask for some help from your closest friends and relatives. This way, you will be able to complete all chores on time.
- Arrive early in the morning – even with some extra help, your moving day is going to be a long one. So, you have to arrive as early as you possibly can – ideally, no later than 9 o’clock in the morning.
- Make a quick safety check – make sure that you gas leak, fire and other alarms are functioning properly. Also, it wouldn’t hurt to double check for pests – rats, roaches, etc.
- Do the cleaning – sure, cleaning is not the nicest task in the world, but in an empty house it is relatively simple, as you have a quick and easy access to all windows, fitted shelves, etc.
- Get ready to meet the movers – make sure you finish all of those things before the movers arrive.
- Check out local stores and markets – when your possessions are delivered, you can have a short break and explore the nearest stores.
- Purchase some supplies – since you are already at the store, you can buy the produce you will need this evening and tomorrow morning.
- Meet the neighbours – meeting the neighbours is not only a polite thing to do, it also gives you a chance to find out some important things about the neighbourhood – for example, when trash is collected.
- Unpack the most important things – find the staff you will be using in the next 24 hours.
- Make your beds – the day will be drawing to its end by now, so get your beds ready.
- Have a nice meal with your family – having done all of those, you can relax a bit and enjoy some time with your family or friends.
- Prioritize your tasks for tomorrow – before going to bed, define the list of things that should be done tomorrow. Ideally, prioritize each task and put all of them in order.
- Get some rest – finally, take a long sleep, as there are more things to do tomorrow.
