3 Ways To Make Homemade Furniture Polish

Want it or not, you will have to polish your wooden furniture  from time to time – if you want to preserve its great look for many years, of course. Polishing does not only protect the furniture, but also keeps it clean and visually appealing. A proper polish can make even the old furniture piece look new – or at least newer. Plus, it is not necessary to buy ready-made, industrial polishes all the time – in fact, it is also possible to make homemade furniture polish that will be as good as any ready-made one. There are three major means of making some natural polish. Here they are:

3 Ways To Make Homemade Furniture Polish

Use the materials you have at hand

First of all, it is not always necessary to make anything at all – you can easily use the materials you have at hand. Olive oil, in particular, is a great substance for polishing furniture. No need to use the expensive stuff – the cheapest one will do.

Vinegar + oil = deep cleaning

To deep clean the furniture, you should mix the same oil and vinegar. The proportion is 1:1.5, where vinegar is the dominant substance. Mix it in a bottle and shake until the liquid emulsifies.

Add a bit of lemon juice for aroma

The same oil and vinegar polish will smell a lot better if you squeeze just a bit of lemon juice into the mixture.

Ready-made polishes are not so bad either

If you think that ready-made polishes are worse because they contain too many chemicals – think again. They are not bad either, and they are made with furniture protection in mind.

Final tips

No matter which polish you are using – either homemade, or industrial one, you should always rub the liquid in gently. Plus, it is important not to use too much substance –especially if you are working with pure olive oil. Next, you should always use very soft fabric cloth – like a flannel, for instance. Otherwise, you risk damaging the furniture piece – a harder material may leave scratches on wood. Sure, some materials, like oak, are very durable, but softer wood, like pine, cannot boast the same feature.

Next, you should not forget to polish your furniture from time to time – at least once a couple of months. Polished furniture accumulates less dust and preserves its natural colour, which gives your home a well-kept, cozy look.

And, if you think that polishing your furniture will not save it and it is simply too old to be part of your home interior, perhaps it is just about the time to hit the stores. If you are in the UK, try visiting Furniture in Fashion  first. This is one the leading platforms operating in the country. They offer an amazing selection of contemporary furniture solutions, and all of the orders are processed incredibly quickly – mostly because the store has warehouses and showrooms in the UK, so 99% of the items listed online are physically available in the vicinity. And, of course, the pricing policy is quite reasonable, too
