Small and awkwardly shaped bedrooms can become a real challenge even to the most experienced decorator – no matter how tiny a space is, you still want it to be beautiful and comfortable. And, of course, any time you have to place a big bed into a small bedroom, you may be wondering – will this arrangement work? The good news is – you can successfully integrate a big bed into a small bedroom, but surely there are some aspects that shouldn’t be taken off counts. All in all, big beds for small rooms can work fabulously, as long as you stick to these simple tips:
Measure up
Before you go shopping for a big bed, make sure you know the exact dimensions of your bedroom. Big beds differ in sizes and some of them may not be suitable for your room, not if you want to have some walkaround space left, at least.
Come up with a draft layout of your bedroom
Have a draft layout of your bedroom interior ready before you hit the stores, and think of proper placement for a bed in advance. You have to think a little bit out of the box; for example, placing big beds for small rooms next to the window is an excellent design solution, which is often overlooked.
Stick to the essentials
Big beds for small rooms only work when they are a centerpiece of the roooms’ interior. Moreover, it’s never advisable to cram many bulky and heavy furniture units into a tiny room, plus, some rooms are so small they simply won’t accommodate a large bed and a complete matching bedroom set with bedside cabinets, dressing table and a wadrobe. You have to consider your needs carefully, stick to the essentials, and limit the number of furniture units to a bed and a bedside cabinet, a bed or a dressing table or a large bed and a small one door wadrobe. Eliminating all objects unrelated to sleep will be a wise decision.
Optimise space and increase storage capacity wherever you can
So you’ve decided to go with a large bed and a bedside cabinet. Or a large bed and a small one door wardrobe, and are ready to start shopping for furniture? Look for units with increased storage capacity – a bed with hidden storage compartments, cabinets with lots of drawers, wardrobe storage solutions, etc.; modern furniture stores will surely have a lot of such units to offer you. To optimise space, think about extending sofa beds for every night use, chances are such solution will suit you best.
Make it light and simple
And, of course, colour scheme plays the most important part in interior decoration. Big beds for small rooms will look best in light setings, with dominating whites and pastels (that doesn’t mean you cannot add occasional bright accents, though). Also, the interior style of a small bedroom should be as simple and minimalistic as possible – stick to straight lines and light wood shades for best effect.
