If you’re like most people, the term chest of drawers probably makes you think of a bedroom. It’s a natural reaction, since that is where most people keep them. While they are primarily designed for storing clothing and personal items that one would keep in their private chambers, smart decorators don’t rule them out as convenient and attractive storage options in other parts of the home and office, as well.
Some offices are going for a more casual, an almost home-like, atmosphere. That’s probably why the break room at one local podiatrist’s clinic has a real wooden table, four mix-matched chairs and for storing away paper plates, coffee mugs, and the break room “supplies”, they use a stylish if a bit shabby chic chest of drawers. It holds everything with style and keeps up the ambiance of the room. Offices, however, are not the only one finding new ways to store things in the chest that was once a bedroom exclusive. You can pick up a chest, or use one that you already have on hand and then, put it to work. In the dining room it can store table linens and even hide the extra place settings or the silver. In the sewing room you can store threads, patterns, craft projects and other necessities, including scraps of cloth for that quilt you’re going to make “some day”. In almost every room of your home, there is a spot that needs a nice piece of furniture with storage capability. Now you know what it is.
I am by no mean advising you to take that chest out of the bedroom. I am only suggesting you might find another one that can fill the void for storage and good looks in other parts of your house. These chests with their handy drawers already know a lot about multi-tasking.
