Of all the rooms in our homes, we each probably spend more of our time in our bedrooms. Of course, a good portion of that time we are, hopefully, asleep. Still, ask just about anyone which room in their home most reflects their personality, and many will answer that it is their bedroom. From the nursery to the bedroom of an elderly grandparent, the bedroom furniture, art and other decorations are personal. So, when we discuss trends in bedroom furniture, we realize that we have to spread a wide net to include plenty of individualists.
The trends are not so much replacements as revamps. The four-poster bed has undergone about a dozen of these since its introduction, as have chest-of-drawers, nightstands and dressers. The idea is to make today’s furniture function better in today’s bedrooms. That means a smaller dresser mirror because a flat screen television is eating up the majority of a wall. It might require unique head or footboard to work with an adjustable bed, or one of many other adaptations necessary to bring the furnishings up-to-date not only with current styles, but with our lives.
Children’s bedroom furniture has probably undergone some of the most exciting changes. From bunk beds that look like a tree fort to a princess bed with cartoon-characters on the canopy, their rooms can be as special as they are. Much of it, however, is outgrown quickly. So don’t spend too much or you’ll be wishing you could trade it in when they’re teens.
Today’s bedroom furniture can come in traditional styles, and hide places to use your laptop or charging decks. Your new bedside table can even have its own Ipod® docking station built in. So feel free to create a room that is uniquely you and, as you do, enjoy the bedroom furniture that is designed with your individuality in mind.
