What To Do With Your Old Home Furniture

Redoing your house is a very exciting time. One of the quickest ways of giving it a bit of a facelift is by replacing all your old home furniture with new ones. New sofas, dining tables, coffee tables… the whole jolly lot! But what do you do with your old home furnishings to make room for all the new ones?

Luckily, these days there are plenty of options available. So it’s simply a matter of sitting down and working out which one is easiest for you. You could, get in touch with your local charity shops and see if they need anything that you might have. It’s likely as well that they may be able to come and pick it up for you. So you can get rid of old belongings without much effort on your part.

Alternatively, you might prefer to donate your possessions to one of the local theatres in your area. Give them a call and see if they need anything for props. They’ll probably ask if they can come around to have a look at what you’ve got. Then take it from there, which means you’re not guaranteed that anything will be taken. So plan ahead accordingly if this is the route you want to take.

Another option is to hold a yard sale and put what you no longer want out in your garden. Inviting people in to see if there’s anything they might like in their own homes. Again, plan this properly and you could be very successful. Setting up a Facebook page for the event and inviting your friends and family could see items go very quickly indeed.

And then there are sites like Craigslist, Gumtree and eBay, which are very fruitful ways of downsizing and getting rid of unwanted possessions. If you’re not bothered about price and simply want to get rid of everything, just put a starting price of 0.99p on the listing and they’re sure to get snapped up.

However, you can also get a bit creative with your old home furnishings and see if there’s any way you can repurpose them so they can be used elsewhere in the house. An old bathtub, for example, could be chopped in half and upholstered to serve as fun outdoor seating, or you could turn old unwanted picture frames into fun and funky bird feeders. The only limit here is your imagination and you and your family could have a brilliant time working out what could be turned into something else.

There are also lots of different books out there having all sorts of ideas for upcycling and repurposing. So why don’t you stock up on a couple to see if you can find some inspiration there as well. What would you do with your old furniture? Let us know in the comments below.
