Even if you’re not vain, you probably look in a mirror at least twice every day. They are part of our culture and our lives. Mirrors were once rare and costly and, therefore, coveted. In our day, however, they are common and considered a basic for every home. Still, there are some decorating tricks utilizing looking glasses you may not have thought of that, with a little ingenuity and time, will perk up the look of any room.
One of my favorite tricks with mirrors is the expandable space illusion. If you have a small room and want to create the illusion of it being larger, then a strategically placed mirror reflecting wall or window, but not yourself, can add to its visual dimensions. When you look in the direction of the mirror, you see the reflected space instead of your own face. This works well in smaller rooms without dark contrasting woodwork or wallpaper. Darker rooms prevent the mirror from blending the image and the reality as well, but it can still be done.(furniture
Another mirror trick is the “hall of mirrors”. You’ve been to the carnival and gone inside one of these halls. You see looking glasses of all sizes and your reflection facing your from every angle, distorting you and making you giggle. Imagine a pair of mirrors at either end of a long, dim hall or stairwell. Place them to catch and reflect the light from each end and see if it doesn’t brighten up that dark space.
So, while they are a must for brushing your teeth, applying make up, shaving or practicing for your upcoming debut on American Idol, these versatile looking glasses do a lot more than show you your face. They let you show your amazing sense of style to the world.
