With 2017 just two very short days away, homeowners the UK over can start thinking about how they’re going to give their homes a makeover in the new year. If this is your plan, you’re sure to find our little list of interior design New Year’s Resolutions particularly useful. Have a quick read and then let us know what you think. Do you have any of your own you’d like to add to the list? We’d love to hear what you’ve got planned for 2017, whether it’s investing in a new dining table and 6 chairs or something more involved like converting the attic space.
Upcycle
Not everything you have to buy for your house has to be brand new. There’s an awful lot to be said for upcycling and repurposing objects, whether you’ve got them at home already or want to spend a few hours scouring around charity shops and salvage yards. The best part is that you’re only limited by your imagination! Check out upcycling projects on Pinterest for a bit of inspiration.
Don’t strive for perfection
Houses are messy. This is a fact. Try and keep it clean and tidy as much as possible but don’t give yourself a hard time if there are crumbs on the floor or dog hair on the sofa. A little bit of mess is actually a good thing – it’s far more important to enjoy your life than to have the perfect house.
Refresh, don’t redecorate
Redecorating an entire house is a huge undertaking and can quickly become expensive. Instead, why don’t you refresh little details like changing lampshades or swapping out your door handles for something different? Quick wins like this can actually make a big difference so why not give it a go to see how you feel?
New coat of paint
By the same token, you can easily make your house feel like new by painting the walls, either the same colour or something else. A fresh coat of paint can make a world of difference and is just as important as new design, so bear this in mind before spending lots of money.
Be brave
Why not take a few risks with your interior design this year? This could be by being brave with colour and opting for something like a bright yellow trim around the ceiling of the living room, or by seeking out some interesting art from a local artist. Take yourself out of your comfort zone – you could be surprised by the results.
Finish projects off
It’s often very easy to start something and then not finish it, with daily life getting in the way all too quickly. Instead of starting a new project in 2017, why don’t you look around your house to see if there’s anything that really needs to be finished off first?
