Hotel furniture used to be fairly predictable. You had a bed with a cursory headboard. There would be at least one dresser and either a closet or open rack for hanging clothes. A chair and a table with a lamp would sit near the window and a single bedside table held the lamp, the phone and in most instances, a Gideon’s Bible. Nowadays, things have changed and for the better.
If it has been a while since you visited a good hotel, you’re in for a treat. Today’s hotel rooms are significantly improved in comfort and décor. You’ll find warm welcoming colors, coordinated bedding and draperies and best of all, updated hotel furniture that will make your visit so much more pleasant. Gone are the utilitarian tables and gaudy chairs. You’ll find decorator touches and genuinely comfortable, good-looking furnishings in almost any decent hotel.
Padded or upholstered headboards are in vogue now, as opposed to those hard, wooden things of yore. There are desks for working on your laptop and the closets have fold down ironing boards with a handy iron for pressing out creases. You’ll find small sofas and ottomans, along with stylish lamps. Best of all, these are some of the improved types of hotel furniture you’ll find.
The lobbies are even more impressive. The counter for check-in/out has changed little, but there are great things going on with hotel lobby furnishings. Many public spaces in hotels now feature clustered seating areas for impromptu gatherings or meeting abound. Fireplaces and other mood-setting focal points draw the eye and the spaces are open, uncluttered and in most cases, family friendly.
Maybe it is time you had a little vacation just so you can check in and check out the changes in hotel furniture. From the bell captain’s stand to the cabinet holding the bathroom sink, it’s a whole new look and you’re going to love it.
