Having a dark bedroom in the house does sound romantic, but it can get difficult to cope with such a room after some time. There are several ways to get the best of a bedroom that does not get enough illumination either due to inappropriate position of the windows or due to improperly planned lights. However, one should first consider repainting the walls with a lighter shade in order to brighten the backdrop of the room.Sometimes, a bedroom appears dark simply because some corners do not receive sufficient light from the primary light source. In such situations, using one or two mirrors can be useful. If mirrors sound too exaggerated as an idea, one can even use crystal trinkets to refract the light from its primary source to the different corners of the room.
Adding a few decorations on the walls can brighten up any bedroom that otherwise looks shabby and uninteresting. Any decoration being used, like a wall hanging, for instance, should be adequately illuminated. If the bedroom has a double bed, it can prove to be a good idea to have two separate bedside lamps, one on each side of the bed.
One might experience a situation, where using curtains enhances the appearance of the room at the expense of external light and ventilation. In such cases, one can make use of curtain holdbacks to get around the problem. While adding these simple devices, one should be careful that they do not interfere with the rest of the décor in any way. To optimize its appearance, a bedroom should have at least two levels of illumination. The first level should be the brightest, which is to be used if necessary. The second level should include only the light from the bedside lamps. Having multiple levels of illumination allows one to change the mood of the room with the flick of a switch.
