Recessed lighting has become extremely popular. It makes the décor of one’s home look modern and bright. Moreover, it is energy efficient; in comparison to the halogen bulb, recessed LED lights can save a lot of energy. At the first glance, it seems a bit difficult to maintain, but this is not quite true, especially if you know how to pick recessed lighting.  Besides, it is better for your eyes, as recessed lights are equally directed, which is hardly ever the case with other types of fixtures. Finally, recessed lighting is also affordable, and can be used both indoors and outdoors.

Combining options

Recessed lighting will not give you a chance to forget about other types of lighting altogether. Good news is that it can be combined with a number of different spotlights. Separate different types of lights into groups managed by separate switches. In the dining room, you can set recessed lighting around the dining table and place a chandelier in the middle, for example.

Safety

Note that the intense heat, which is undesirable for any lighting sources in general, is simply unacceptable for the recessed lighting. Thus, the light sources should be reliable, durable, easy to maintain, and should not give off too much heat. That is why it crucial to choose trustworthy brands with established reputation in the market.

Trims

The largest trims are the best solution for lighting large rooms, for example. And the smallest ones should be chosen for compact rooms, such as kitchens, bathrooms, etc. The amount of light will depend not only on the size of the bulb but also on the colour of its rim. For places with high humidity, such as the bathroom or outdoors, choose special waterproof trims.

Bulbs

While choosing bulbs for any lighting source, the first thing you should remember is that it is always better to invest in the high-quality product. You may spend more on the bulb itself, but you will not be forced to change it often. Light bulbs in recessed light fixtures may be different: fluorescent bulbs, incandescent bulbs, light emitting diode bulbs, halogen bulbs, etc. Incandescent bulbs are not expensive, so they sometimes seem to be the most obvious choice. However, they are not energy-efficient and they get hot too quickly. The best option for recessed lighting would be halogen or LED-bulbs.

Distance

Before you get started with the recessed lighting, consider the distance between the fixtures. Decide how far away from the walls you want the lights to be. The farther they are, the less light intensity you will get. If the lights are too close to each other, they will create extremely sharp and bright light. On the other hand, if you put them too far apart, the room will look dark. Besides, the larger the lights are, the more the distance between them must be.

Finally, if you choose in favour of energy-efficient LED lights, some of these ideas might come in handy
