With a new year on the horizon, no doubt many of you are planning home improvement projects to give your house a new lease of life. If you’ve got something in the pipeline for your property, it would make sense to do a bit of research to see what interior design trends are likely to make waves in the year ahead. Here are just a couple that have caught our eye here at Furniture in Fashion.
Hygge
This is something that’s really come to the fore over the last few months or so and we predict that it’ll only get bigger over the next 12 months. It’s a Danish word that encompasses the feeling that you get when you take real pleasure in making everyday moments meaningful and special. It’s about cosiness, security, family, happiness, simplicity and reassurance… which for your home means creating a space that allows you and your family and friends to spend time together unwinding and relaxing, enjoying a slower pace of life.
Natural tones
Next year, more natural rustic shades will take centre stage, with hues like indigo, terracotta, olive and cinnamon, as well as copper and silver accents making waves in homes around the world. Mustard – which has long been a popular shade – will continue to curry favour, as will variants of purple, mauve, green and blue. Metallics will fade into the background a bit, so perhaps start phasing out some of the copper you’ve been featuring for the last year or so.
Terracotta
Modern interiors will be given a bit of an elegant makeover by the introduction of terracotta tiles, which are incredibly warm – so it’s no surprise that they’ll be coming to the forefront a bit more in 2017. Don’t be put off if you don’t live in a charmingly rustic farmhouse – these tiles work brilliantly in contemporary settings as well.
Cork
Another material you’re likely to see more of in the year ahead is cork, which might sound a little strange but bear in mind that it’s incredibly versatile and can be used in a variety of different ways. The plus side is that it’s waterproof as well, so you can feature it in your bathrooms and kitchens with ease.
Glamour
If the above doesn’t interest you, you’re sure to be pleased to hear that more glamorous touches to the home will also be popular in 2017. For example, you could bring in jewel tones like sapphire blue and emerald green in your furniture and artwork, or use velvet for your drapes, pillows and sofas. Marble is in for tables, countertops and flooring, as well.
Fabric over leather
Think luxury with your fabrics this year and perhaps fade out any leather you might have at home if you want a truly modern living environment. Grey has been hugely popular for homeowners in the last few years and while it’s not going anywhere, perhaps use varying tones to create depth and texture at home.
