Some of us are just casual imbibers. We would not know a good chardonnay from cheap Chablis if you gave us a guide. Others are connoisseurs. They can tell a wine’s age and from what vineyard it haled after a single sip. What we both have in common is a love of wines and the need for a place to store them. With so many options available, wooden wine racks , metal wine racks , even marble ones, how do you know which is best?
The primary function for a wine rack being used by someone who likes wine, but doesn’t worship it and collect it, is simple storage. A basic rack will work well, regardless of the material. You may want to consult your design scheme to see what works well for you.
Since you’re a casual wine shopper, you won’t need a cellar or a huge rack. You will, however, want a large enough one to hold a few varieties. Besides, a full wine rack just looks better.
For the wine connoisseur, however, the function of the wine rack takes on several additional dimensions. Their primary rack is likely going to be inside of their wine cellar. In a huge house, this could be an actual cellar.
In an uptown loft apartment, it’s probably a portable wine-cellar offering the climate control needed to store wine optimally. The metal wine racks inside the cellar keep the bottles at the right angle and, if it’s large enough, your really organized wine-collector will have rack’s slots labeled and/or color-coded.
A love of delicious, fine wine is not uncommon. The approach to purchasing and storing wine, however, differs greatly. The kind of rack you choose to store yours will be determined by how much value it holds for you.
