- There are three color groups that are usually used for painting walls. These are warm, muted and cool colors.
- Warm colors range includes yellow, red and orange.
- Cool colors range includes violet, green and blue.
- Muted colors are however colors comprising tint of gray.
- If you have a smaller living room and you want to make it look wider, use blue wall paint. Blue makes the room look wider and also creates the calmness effect.
- Avoid using too bright colors as they could make your room look very busy.
- Once you are done with color selection, decide on the color scheme which you are going to implement in this room. The basic color themes include complimentary, monochromatic and triadic.
- In monochromatic color arrangement, single color is used on all the walls. In complimentary color arrangement, two opposite colors are placed opposite to each other. While in triadic color arrangement, three different shades of same color or completely different three colors are placed adjacent or usually at equal distance.
Based on the above tips, you can develop a theme of the room and decide the furniture colors as well.
