The History of The Furniture Market

When we look at the history of the furniture stores  market, we come to know that the furniture of the Egyptians was constructed from stone, while those of the Romans and Greeks were made from bronze and marble, and in the middle ages, it was made from wood dining room furniture . Very little of those artifacts are found today and that which are quite expensive. It is called antique and many collectors spend thousands of dollars to collect these items as their hobby.

During the Middle Ages, the bed, bench, stool, and a chest were given more importance in the decor of the house. Chest was one of the most important possessions as people kept all the valuables in it. These are found sometimes decorated and carved. You can find them at online auctions or antique shops nowadays. The style of carving and designing on tables and chairs started during the 12th century, and it was termed as Gothic style. The trefoil, the pointed arch, the quatrefoil, and other such tracery were used on furniture. Chairs were ornamented and cupboards were carved on. Then came the Renaissance and designs on the furniture were given importance according to its setting in the house. Furniture  became less heavy and was no longer depicting the abbey or the cathedral style.

In the time of Queen Anne, simple and graceful furnishing was preferred. Tables and chairs had plain Dutch feet and cabriole legs. This style was also copied by the Chippendale brothers in England in their early works. In the history of the furniture market, each style has its own place and importance. Historians prophesize that we will again move towards art for art’s sake, and if this happens, then there would be a new epoch in furniture making and we would be blessed with designers similar to Chippendale and Sheraton.
