Top Modern Furniture Designers Can Be Classic, Too
So many of today’s consumers find the concept of using this generation’s more contemporarily designed, modern furniture in their homes as too trendy. These are the furniture shoppers who want traditional, enduring styles that will hold up for many years when lovingly cared for and that can be passed down to the next generation. Today’s furniture industry has good news for those shoppers. You can enjoy your modern furniture and still have classic style.
First, it is important to remember that all furniture was once “modern”. In the nineteenth century, having a bed whose mattress was stuffed with feathers and suspended off the floor on ropes was not unusual. That was one sort of “modern” piece that we are fortunate to have replaced with more comfortable sleeping materials. Other pieces, such as the sofa, the sideboard, even head and footboards, were all once very new. Styles that we think of as classic today were once contemporary.
So when you furnish a room in some of today’s modern furniture, you are creating a new kind of classic. Maybe it won’t seem like “traditional furnishing” now, but when you pass that shocking pink slip chair with its half moon back along to your grandchildren? It may be old-school style to them. After all, as we have often heard, there is really nothing new under the sun. There are, however, plenty of new ways of meeting the age-old needs for household furnishings.
So, go ahead and either redecorate completely in the modern style, or at least add a few pieces in as accents for your already classy look. You’ll find that furniture that is well made and stylish, has a classic status from the day you buy it until the day it is no longer modern at all.
