How To Make Small Bathrooms Feel Bigger

A sense of space really helps to make your home feel more luxurious but more often than not these days, homeowners have to make do with a slightly smaller bathroom than they might otherwise like to have. However, just because your bathroom is small doesn’t mean it can’t be mighty, so here are a few insider hints and tips from us here at Furniture in Fashion to help you with your bathroom redesign in the new year.

Hang your sink

Pick a compact sink and instead of having it on a pedestal as you so often see in homes, create a bit of extra space by hanging it on the wall. If you can, inset the wall so you create a niche as this will add a bit of extra room as well – plus you’ll have space for storage to boot.

Pick a bold patterned wallpaper

People are often afraid of really going for it with the decorating when the space is small but all too often this has the effect of making the room seem even tighter. Be brave with your decorating in 2017 and pick out a bold wallpaper with big heavy patterns and then simply paper the walls and the ceiling as well. This will really make an instant impact and detract from the fact that the room is on the smaller side.

Use clear glass to your advantage

A really quick and easy way of maximising the space in your bathroom is by using clear glass in your shower. If you opt for textured glass you could find it feels almost barrier-like in the room, almost like another wall. With clear glass, you can get lots of light coming in and be able to see all areas of the bathroom, making it feel bigger as a result.

Use big mirrors

If you want a sense of luxury in your bathroom, bring a big mirror in. If you can, stretch it so it goes all the way up to the ceiling and install lights at the top so you can make the most of reflected light – which will make your space seem huge even if it’s actually really tiny.

Paint it black

Make like The Rolling Stones and paint parts of your bathroom in a dark colour, especially if the rest of the room is white. This will create a really dramatic look and will detract from the fact that the space is small. Plus because bathrooms are usually the smallest rooms in the house, it won’t take long to do!

Plan well

Measure once, then measure again. Always think about how you’re going to use the space and take it from there, so think about whether you’ll have enough space to stand comfortably at the sink and if there’s enough room for the toilet that you want. Knowing the measurements of the space will allow you to really create the bathroom of your dreams.
