We all want our home to not only be beautiful and comfortable, but also reflect the most time-relevant contemporary trends. Regardless whether you are furnishing your home from scratch or looking for ways to revamp your existing interior, what type of furniture is in style is an important question. Sure, when it comes to choosing furniture, we cannot afford to follow fashion blindly and should concentrate on trends that will stay with us for at least 5-7 years. Here is a brief overview of contemporary trends that are unlikely to go out of fashion in the near future:
Materials
A truly timeless material, genuine wood, is, again, on the peak of its popularity – moreover, style experts predict this situation is unlikely to change any time soon. Wood is not only popular because of its durability and warm homey feel, modern minimalistic furniture, which features simple lines and obvious absence of décor elements, puts especial emphasis on natural wood textures. Chunky rustic furniture and its combination with high-tech elements is one of the most popular recent trends, and, needless to say, eco-style is still very much in trend and likely to remain relevant. The same goes for distressed vintage-looking furniture.
Another highly popular material is leather – stylists recommend to go for leather sofas with grey, black, brown and taupe upholstery, which looks excellent against wooden textures, and to combine matte and glossy surfaces.
One more contemporary material widely featured in recent furniture collections is tempered glass. Because of its airy’, invisible’ look, designers recommend using tempered glass furniture for small spaces.
Styles
What type of furniture is in style is a question, which doesn’t have any correct answer, since a lot still depends on your individual preferences. One interesting trend, though, than emerged in 2015, is a so-called ‘mixed style’ – all your furniture no longer has to look the same, as long as you combine styles that are compatible. For example, a combination of rustic and high tech, ethnic and minimalistic styles is currently in trend. One can surely say that good taste will never go out of fashion.
Shapes
As for shapes, the fascination with straight simple lines or, alternatively, rounded svelte silhouettes is still an ongoing trend. In general, furniture stylists tend to stick to ergonomic, minimalistic shapes and put more emphasis on furniture textures and materials.
Colours
And, of course, while talking about what type of furniture is in style, we can’t help but mention the most time-relevant colour palette. Grey, natural wood shades, and of course, white, are main colours on which a typical design picture of a contemporary home is based. One of the most recently introduced fresh and unconventional solutions is dark blue furniture – needless to say, it looks fantastic against contrasting white or light grey walls.
Finally, a relatively new trend, which has emerged in the recent years is using transparent materials not only as table surfaces, but also for making shelves and dining chairs . Needless to say, such surfaces may be tinted into different colours to add some bright accents into the interior#
