Occasional Tables Odd Furniture Terms

I know that I take words a bit too literally. It’s probably part and parcel with being a writer. Still, when I am shopping in a furniture store and I see an item labeled as an “occasional table”, I begin to wonder. If it is only a table on occasion, what is it the rest of the time? Lots of furniture names make you wonder. Loveseats are for more than making out, and they look a lot like a small sofa. Why not just call them small sofas? Okay, I am getting carried away. What I really wanted to talk about was all of the fun you can have with occasional tables all of the time!Of course, let’s set the record straight. I am fully aware of the fact that they’re called occasional because they can have multiple uses and can be used in different sorts of decors. The term “living room” conjures up different images for different people. Some see it as a neat, pristine, lovingly cared for room without a spec of dust. For them the living room has fine furniture and elegant details. In short, it is a room that would frighten both insolent dust and curious small children away. For persons more like me, the living room is a place where you and your family “live”. Part of what makes a livable living room is as uniquely personal as you. You know what you like and what sort of style you wish to convey. Still, you cannot miss when you shop around and find comfortable, easy-to-care-for living room furniture. During the heyday of Victorian high etiquette, the hall was the area of the house, not dissimilar to a foyer, where guests were greeted by the staff and then either bid to wait or informed that the owners of the home were unavailable. During these days, there was a table for the leaving of calling cards. Today’s halls are a lot less formal and serve more uses than those from the past. Still, the right hall furniture can welcome your callers just the same. While hall tables have gone out of fashion, you’ll find plenty of antique-lovers have them. Today’s new versions are versatile.
